British singer-songwriter Kwabs has become quite the welcomed surprise this year, having already supplied us with the utterly killer “Fight For Love” and the emotional “Perfect Ruin,” But why stop there?
Today, Kwabs dropped yet another new track from his upcoming debut Love + War: “Look Over Your Shoulder.”
The bass-heavy cut, which brings Banks to mind, sees the soulful-voiced crooner warning those living foul to watch out for karma above a hypnotic electro-R&B production provided by fellow downtempo singer-songwriter/producer SOHN. “Better look over your shoulder and make sure that you’re alone/ Better stay out of the shadows when you wonder for the fall/ Better look over your shoulders because when you’re on your own/ It’ll creep into your head and it’ll never let you go,” he warns on-top of the marching beat and menacing loops. It’s a chilling trip.
With each track, Kwabs only continues to add more depth and dimension to his steadily growing catalog. There’s no doubt in my mind that Love + War (out September 11th) will wind up on this year’s ‘Best Of’ list. Loving it all!
