Time to formally introduce you to Daya, a Pittsburgh-bred singer-songwriter.
She’s also only a 16-year-old high school junior — but you’d never guess it after hearing her debut single, “Hide Away,” the first from her self-titled debut EP set for a September 18 release via ARTBEATZ.
Colored by summery synths, her foot stomping shout-along attitude (“HEY!”) and sweet harmonies, the clever kiss-off is pretty immediate from the first listen, showcasing Daya‘s genuinely infectious chops above a bouncy beat. “Where do the good boys go to hide away, hide away/ I’m a good, good girl who needs a little company/ Looking high and low, someone let me know/ where do the good boys go to hide away, hide away.”
With just one song at our disposal, it’s hard to make a full assessment on little Miss Daya. But, judging by what she’s offered up with “Hide Away,” it’s clear that she’s got something special going on. I’m all about it – Get into it!
