Hailee Steinfeld has arrived to snatch wigs!
For those unaware, here’s the deal in brief: Hailee is a 18-year-old actress, she has starred in Romeo & Juliet, Ender’s Game, Begin Again, Pitch Perfect 2 and most notably True Grit, which earned her an Academy Award nomination at 13-years-old. I can’t say I’ve seen it, although I assume it has something to do with the Native American origin of cheese grits. (Right?)
Apart from acting, Hailee also happens to be BFF’s with underground pop star Taylor Swift, she plays The Trinity in her “Bad Blood” music video. But that’s not all: She sings, too! Basically, she’s a multi-talented lil’ firecracker.
After signing with Republic Records earlier this year to begin working on her debut album, Hailee shared a few acoustic covers to show us what she’s working with in the form of Pitch Perfect 2 theme song “Flashlight” and “Stitches” with Shawn Mendes.
This week, she unveils her debut single “Love Myself” from her upcoming debut LP. And guess what? It’s not totally shit, it’s actually quite good.
Colored by twinkling synths, her foot stomping shout-along attitude (“HEY!”) and sweet harmonies, the self-empowerment anthem – produced by Mattman & Robin (Taylor Swift, Tove-Lo, etc.) – is pretty immediate from the first listen, showcasing Hailee‘s genuinely infectious chops above a bouncy beat. “I love me! Gonna love myself, no I don’t need anybody else/ Hey! Gonna love myself, no I don’t need anybody else/ I love me! Can’t help myself, no I don’t anybody else/ Anytime, day or night.”
Consider me impressed – “Love Myself” is a majorly addictive debut. WIN!
